Coming Up Roses

Hello there! Well, I finally got back outside for photos today but, of course, Nature had to make it suddenly freezing! (Well, to be accurate it's six degrees above freezing, but who's counting?) And since my photographer didn't have a jacket, and I am like a magnet when it comes to cold...well, a magnet for the cold instead of for metal...this analogy is not working, but you get the point. I get cold SUPER easily. So these were snap and run photos. I need to get used to taking photos outside though because I'm looking forward to looking for better locations once winter break arrives. How do you lovlies do it?!

I wrote a post about body image and weight loss on Monday, and I've been reading some really wonderful posts on the subject lately (like this one from Meg at Bow Ties Are Cool) so it's kind of been on my mind this week. I was looking through my photos and couldn't help but think I didn't look as good as I thought I did when I got dressed this morning. And as I thought about, I realized I do like the outfit, but I'm just so used to showing off my waist and curves with my clothes. This outfit is a bit baggier and looser. The skirt is a-line and the top is slouchy. Since I've lost weight, I have a hard time differentiating between how I look in loose clothes and being bigger. I feel like I make this automatic assumption that if I don't show off my waist, then everyone is going to assume that underneath the loose clothes is more body than there actually is. After nearly not posting the pictures, I realized I was being an idiot, that I should wear whatever I want without inhibitions, and that all of you should too :) Thus concludes my body image story of the day. Know that you are all beautiful. Don't let assumptions or preconceived notions get in your way of that knowledge.

Top: Delia's

  1. I love baggy clothes and sometimes I have the same issues before wearing a baggy sweater, fortunately I always end up wearing it because I love being comfy and honestly I don't care much what others think about my weight or figure. You rock this outfit, I love the colour of the skirt and I don't think I ever posted you before but I've been following you for some time, so keep up the good work I love your style girl!

  3. Nicole. I. Love. This. Outfit. Your top is so pretty & I wish I looked that cute in a beanie. (:

Oh and well said on the body image stuff. All of us get caught up in the stupid "always make yourself look as thin as possible" message in our culture, but you're right- we shouldn't. It's really not important.

    You are beautiful darlin'! xo

  4. First, DAT SKIRT. Love.

Second, oh man I feel ya with the baggy clothes stuff. My waist is my favorite part of my body, so I always feel like I should "show it off" or whatever otherwise people will think I'm dumpy all over. Which is silly! Because one should always wear what makes them happiest, not what makes them look "best". Well that's my philosophy anyway. But I still have that inner turmoil (and often enough the vanity wins out). However, I honestly think you look VERY good in this outfit. It's loose, yes, but it really does flatter your shape and hangs really well on you. Just because your waist isn't nipped in doesn't mean you don't look trim and lovely! Personally I'm loving this whole look on you, and I think it's super flattering. <3

p.s. Thank you so much for the pimp! :3

  5. Great pictures and a super cute outfit!! I TOTALLY believe in people wearing what they want too! I try not to talk about body image because I don't want to contribute even more to what I tend to think of as a lot of messed up messages people get from society! I worry that even if I mean well, it would be interpreted the wrong way! Your blog is fabulous and you're fabulous too! Great post!

  6. I admire your honesty! I certainly have had lots of moments of looking in a mirror and only seeing the flaws and then having to change. It's crazy how the way we look can effect our mood for the entire day. At least it's that way for me.
I've recently had the thoughts of thinking if I wore oversized clothes that I would come off looking bigger. But the trend seem to be coming up all over and I just decided to go for it and not care what others (and mainly myself!) were thinking. I hate being my own worst enemy in the battle of getting dressed!

As a chronic clothing commenter, I want to lastly say I really really like your top! I get the Delia's catalogs a lot and I mark them up and have dream wish lists and I remember marking that. It's such a lovely floral and looks really good on you! :)

  12. this outfit is really cute. i love the print of the top.
I also needed some time to get used to slouchy things. I had the same thoughts about accentuating the waist. I think it's really a question of getting used to it. you look good!

  13. I love slouchy things but have the same issue especially coming off of being pregnant. Your outfit is adorable though. I just love the print on the floral top. It goes perfectly with that skirt. Gorgeous!
