Who Wears Short Shorts?

IMG_7158edit

I didn't do too much yesterday except finish the book I was reading - Ethan Frome - and drive/walk around with Zak. I've been spending a lot of my summer days in this lazy way, and I know it's okay to relax, but I'm still on the hunt for a summer internship or job. My "big decision" last week was to quit the internship I was at. I loved the work I was doing, but there were late night events and errands that had me running around Manhattan, and the commuting would have been both expensive and impossible. It was a really tough move, because I couldn't convince myself that I wasn't failing or quitting or giving up on my first real job opportunity. Now, even though I haven't been able to find anything else yet, I'm hoping it was the right move. It's a lot easier in retrospect to say, "Well, maybe I could have just done the late night commuting. Maybe I shouldn't have given up." But when I put myself back to the place I was last week, getting sick over my inability to do what they wanted of me, it's easier to see that I probably wasn't the best fit for them. Oh, boy. I certainly didn't mean for this to evolve into a job woe post, and that's not what I want anyone to take from this. It's more about me, as a person, trying to find what makes me happy - a journey I'm sure everyone can relate to. I'm trying to start living by "if it doesn't make you happy, why do it?" or "if it's not what you want, why settle?," both versions of a bumper sticker on a car I saw walking to school everyday.

Anyway, like I said, a lazy summer day calls for a fairly lazy outfit. I like these shorts because they're high waisted, but since they're stretchy, they had stretched out a lot by the end of the day. Oh well. I can't complain to much because 1. they're still cute and 2. I got them for $10 on sale from Urban Outfitters. I chose my most favorite tee to wear with it, and kept things simple.

  1. Aw, I too love good pair of high waisted shorts! Your lazy outfit is basically my summer uniform, shorts and a t-shirt...can't go wrong with that!

  5. You probably made the right choice! You shouldn't have to do an internship that takes too much of your time or expects more than your fair share. I'm supposed to be starting an internship but they're taking their time getting back to me. I'm kind of bored and I'd rather be bored at a desk getting paid instead of running errands for everyone in my family.

  6. Ethan Frome! I love that book! That was my obsession throughout eighth grade--no kidding.

Commuting in NYC is ridiculous. I hear they're raising the Metro Card prices to like $2.50 from $2.25 and getting rid of student reductions. Argh!!!

  7. Aw, your shirt is darling! I was obsessed w/ Madeline books when I was little. And you look amazing in those shorts...something I could never pull off. Sounds like you made a very wise decision, difficult but wise. I always think whatever the heart tells you first, is the right decision b/c it is what you truly want deep down. Best wishes on your job hunt...the right thing will come:)

  8. I LOVE those shorts!!Way cute!

Let me give you a little advice (I'll be 28 soon so I'm a little older)don't stress so much about finding both a job and an internship...ENJOY the college experience, the lazy summer days. Once you are out in the workforce you will MAYBE have a two week vacation a year, THAT'S IT!

I think a PT summer job or fun internship would be perfect for you, you can get great work experience, maybe earn some cash but still enjoy this time of your life. I worked all through college and never really had that full "college experience" and I definitely regret it now.

  10. I'm in a weird position. I have my stupid retail job, but I'll definitely be working on getting some nice portfolio pieces done this summer so that I can start looking for some sort of graphic design internship come late summer/fall. I'm trying to be really proactive since I changed majors.

LOVE your shirt. Madeline has a special place in my heart :) And definitely also loving the high waisted shorts.

  11. I'm gonna be the instigator of bad behavior and say I think it's awesome that you quit and I love the new motto you picked up!
A lot of people find work to be so important in their lives, which it can be, but if it becomes "work" then why do you keep doing it?! Work should be something you are passionate about and should challenge you in good ways. (rather than stretching you in all directions that you are uncomfortable with)
I really like your decision to be happy rather than be kind of happy doing something.

I know that there is something better out there waiting for you! Good luck!! :)

  14. Aw. You'll find your little niche. That's what internships are for--they don't always work out but soon enough you'll find one that will :) Still can't get over how adorable your Madeline tee is!

PS. Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog. You are looking so great Nicole! It's kinda funny that you say I inspired you when you're the one who inspires me all the time! <3 Reunion in September for shizzleeeeeeeee! And this time I won't be dashing off to see any fashion shows ;)
