Yesterday started off with me feeling nervous and frazzled - and sleepy - but ended up being quite wonderful. In the morning, I met with a woman - who I am now interning for! - to discuss what I would be doing to help her small press. I was worried because I didn't know what to expect, whether it would be an intense interview or a very casual meeting, but it ended up being lovely and I'm excited to work with them! Afterwards, my mom and I went outlet shopping, where I managed to snag a few good deals, mainly 40% off an already reduced gap cardigan (I am desperately in need of cardigans!) and this here boater hat! I've been looking for one for a long time, and I finally found one at the Aldo outlet - and reduced! I had a really lovely time driving on the upstate country highway, listening to the Shins, and doing some shopping.
This outfit isn't really anything special, since I wanted to keep things toned down for my interview. I simply added the boater hat since I liked how the two sets of polka dots looked together. This dress is apparently what I wear to look "professional." On all of the interviews I've been on this summer, I've worn this dress. Perhaps it's because it makes me feel like a secretary from the 50's?
Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Hat: Aldo
Also! Just before I go, I never like to ask things of you guys, but I'm going to put my pride aside for a moment. As you all probably know by now, I love poetry. Figment.com is having a contest where people submit poems starting with the line "I want to play in a band with a crazy name." The ten poems with the most "hearts" will be judged by Billy Collins. For those of you who don't know, Billy Collins is the poet who made me love poetry. He is first and foremost my favorite poet, and the idea of him reading my poem would be a dream come true. If you have a moment to help a gal out, click here to go to the figment website and create a free account (it seriously takes a few seconds) and then click here to "heart" my poem, Bartleby and the Squid Belts. Thanks so much for your support. You guys are the best, and I really appreciate this.
Until tomorrow,
Nicole

ReplyDeleteoh yay..congrats on getting the internship!
ReplyDeleteplus, you look absolulty darling. polkadots make life a lil bit sweeter.
(at least i like to think they do.. )
have a wonderful day Nicole.
What?! You look wonderful, this outfit is lovely and I like every time you show this dress! This time is no exception.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's wonderful you liked the lady you're going to work with, that's the most important thing to feel good while working!
Oh and your new highlights make you look like a readhead! ;) I read what you said about not getting what you originally wanted at your hair appointment. That happened to me too when I cut my hair a few weeks ago so I went back today and it's finally how I wanted it in the first place!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos! The hat is adorable. I think the dress is both professional and very stylish. Congratulations on the internship!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great dress on you! I've learned that when it comes to looking professional, it boils down to how I feel in an outfit. I don't own any professional-looking blazers or trousers, but I've found that certain pieces (like this beautiful caramel-colored midi skirt I love) just make me feel powerful and capable. Usually interviewers make some mention of my outfits, which I guess makes me memorable?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, congratulations on the internship! You'll have to let us know how it goes! And I just "liked" your poem; I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, lady. :)
i love how i could replicate this entire outfit! i just might! (when it's not raining...it just started today..hmm..) you look adorable! love your style, girl.
ReplyDeletelet me know the dates in july that you'll be around! we should email sydney from the rabbit-hearted girl to find out when she'll be around. :)

Perfect vintage-y outfit! Now you've got me wanting to hunt down Aldo's for that hat. I'm in desperate need of a small, simple, boater hat.
ReplyDeleteHey, regarding the blogger meet-up, I think anytime next week will be possible. Actually, any time is fine since I'm on summer break and live in NYC, so whenever you happen to be in the city!
Congratulations on getting the internship! This is great news and I can't wait to hear about how it goes. And I LOVE the dress. It is so perfect. The little ascot neckline, the cut, the polka dots....total swoon. xx
