Stripe City

DSC_0005
I wanted to start this post out by saying thank you to all of you for your comments on my last post. It's very easy to forget that my blog is, in fact my own creation, made for myself and no one else. I definitely want to make sure that I don't lose sight of that fact. Every now and then I find myself getting dressed in the morning and asking myself "Will this outfit gain followers?" instead of "Is this what I feel like wearing today?" and on those days, I end up unhappy because on the one hand, I'm not listening to myself, and on the other hand, I'm trying to please people I don't even know. And that, my friends, is silly. I know that when it all boils down, they're "only clothes," but when it comes to my struggle with listening to myself and following my own wishes for myself, clothes are simply the tip of the iceberg so to speak. I've always battled with myself over doing what others want for me rather than what I truly want, and I really want to start working on this. I think this blog would be a great venue for that ball to start a'rollin.

I actually felt very like myself in this outfit. It wasn't one of those days where I tried on eight different outfits. This was the first thing I put on and I stuck with it. It's a bit more colorful than I usually go for, but I really wanted to wear my bright, rainbow-y headscarf. Of course, I had to add my striped keds, so I ended up with a whole lot of mis-matched stripes, but I think (hope?) it all works in some odd, fun way :)

Oh! And before I forget, I added a whole mess of stuff to my blog shop today! So go check that out if you like :)

Top: Macy's
Jeans: Levi's
Keds: Keds (hehe)

  3. So many great elements! Love the stripes on the headband, the embroidery on the shirt, the back of your shirt, your bag, and keds! Keds are fabulous! I've tried the urban outfitters plimsolls but they're horrible! I like this outfit a lot because it's something I would wear any day. It takes a lot for me to put on a skirt or dress. Wear what you like and what's comfortable!

  5. Yeah, the back is so cute! And so is your striped scarf, and your bag is really cool! You're making me want to experiment with something in my hair, although I don't have much of it.

  6. I go through the same thing when I'm getting dressed. It's a struggle because we feel like we have to dress for the blog! You inspire me, silly as the topic is.

  7. I'm glad you feel like yourself in this outfit... because it's one of my all time favourites! The bag! The headscarf! The colour of the top!

I also feel I'm dressing for the blog, as Amber says, sometimes. The other day when wandering out for breakfast in a short dress, wedges, and what my sister would call "bitch glasses" (enormous sunglasses) I did have a moment of thinking "what the hell is this, Emily." That's why, as we've been saying, this summer is really all about honing and refining and defining and sticking to a good me style! Sorry for another mega-ramble!

  8. I love the headscarf. It's the perfect color for your outfit and it's always a nice touch!

I'm pretty sure we all had that feeling about our style blogs now and then. If we didn't, we wouldn't be humans! :DDD

I was just wandering, what camera do you use to take your pictures?

  10. I go through the same thing with decided what to wear sometimes... And it's true, you end up picking something and not being happy with it, for the wrong reasons. Don't feel your the only one who feels this way! I'm a first time reader... won't be the last!
