Girly Girl

August 122

I'm not good at being exceptionally girly. I know, I know. There are goodness knows how many peter pan collars in my closet, and I enjoy them dearly. The thing is, if I wear a peter pan collar, or any other type of super girly accessory or garment, I feel the need to rough the outfit up a bit. I've tried extremely "girly" outfits before - think floral peter pan collar dress, high heels, wingtip eyeliner - and while I like them, I don't feel completely comfortable in them. I probably don't seem much like it on my blog, but I'm not an overly girly girl. Sure, I write poetry and love baking cupcakes, but I also love Super Smash brothers, sitting cross legged, eating said baked cupcakes like a pig, have obnoxious Spongebob singalongs in the car, and having contests over who can burp the loudest/make the ugliest face. And I certainly like those things about myself. So, when I get dressed, I feel most comfortable when I simultaneously look like a girl who writes and bakes, but one who may just beat you in Super Smash Brothers (or throw a tantrum when you beat her). Generally, if I feel too girly, as was the case with the bright pink and red colors in this outfit, I'll throw on some boots or a denim jacket, or, in warmer weather, my favorite (and only) denim vest.

  1. Hmmm, in general I don't consider myself exceptionally girly, but I do dress in quite a feminine way. I'm always trying to think of ways around that, but denim jackets just aren't me either. Hmmm. I'm seriously failing to imagine you having a burping contest, Nicole!

  2. Your scalloped shorts are so adorable! It's always great to add your own personal touch on items that make you feel more like yourself. This outfit definitely isn't overly girly.

    Sincerely,

  4. CUTE. I love your denim vest. Whenever you wear it I want one, so I finally bit the bullet and ordered one today. :) Lately I've been feeling way less girly, which is really just getting back to my roots. haha I was quite boy-ish when I was younger, and dressed like a dude- only in the past few years have I started to wear dresses and such! I've been tired of flowers and frills lately though so I'm hoping for some more menswear-y type clothes for the fall.

  5. I love the edge you added with the denim vest! And ug I hate that I feel like I can't pull off super girlie or hard edge... I'm somewhere in the middle! But the middle is awesome! I love those colors on you its magical :)

  7. This is certainly a fantastic combination of girly and not so girly. The vest really breaks it up and makes it something completely different! Love it. :)

  8. I know how you feel. I used to be a strictly jeans and tshirt kind of gal, and went through quite a punk phase haha. Then when I started branching out to dresses and skirts and florals, I felt so uncomfortable and too girly for my liking. Now I can't stand the idea of not having dresses in my life, but not to the point of looking like a not so delicious cupcake ha (bad joke I know!). Anyways, point of this ramble is that I like how you pull off this outfit and colors.

P.s. I am a burping queen, we might have to battle it out hehe :)

  11. Oh I love the colors! I totally understand about being girly but goofy at the same time. Seriously I talk about poop and burp all day long, haha :)

  12. I'm pretty much the same way! I just don't feel comfortable wearing overly girly things and though I feel other people look great in those clothes, it's just a style that doesn't suit my personality and that's fine! Still, you are a lot girlier than I am :P! I love that about your style, you take something girly and tone it down, like with this vest and still manage to look super awesome!
