Fake Christmas

dec 18 1

Yesterday was my family's first Fake Christmas. You see, for the first time ever, my sister's not going to be with our family for Christmas, since her and her husband are going to California to be with his family this year. This is a real bummer for all of us (except Cheryl's husband probably) since we're quite close-knit and have always been together for the holidays. So, we decided to celebrate Fake Christmas this year so we could all be together for an almost holiday. And let me tell you, it was a wonderful day. There were presents, some delicious food (including macarons), Scattergories, and an absurd amount of laughs. There were a few moments where I nearly forgot it wasn't real Christmas, that's how good it was. It's lame to think that Cheryl's going to have to be with another part of her family for the holidays now, but it's comforting to know that fake Christmas is almost as good as the real thing, as long as we're all together.

Since we were pretending that it was Christmas, I wanted to wear a very holiday-ish outfit. This plaid blouse reminds me of wrapping paper, and red is one the most Christmassy colors there is. Oh, and you'll probably notice I got a haircut! I've been wanting to go pretty short for a while, and I'm happy I just did it. I mean, it's all nice and styled from the hair-salon still, and will probably never look like this again, but I'm hoping it'll look just as nice au naturel.

Today's holiday question: Are you done with your holiday shopping? Thankfully I'm all done, and quite pleased with the gifts I got for everyone. I always like finding gifts that I think my family and friends will really appreciate, and I was able to get most of my gifts from etsy and everything.

  6. Your hair looks so amazing! And your eyes-- so doe-eyed in the best possible way. I swear, you grow more and more beautiful with each passing day.

We celebrated Christmas early last year (dad deployed) so I know how that goes.

  8. Yes, I'm all done with the Christmas shopping since November! Ahh it feels good. Now I just have to wrap everything. We just picked out our Christmas tree today too!

I'm the second oldest in the siblings so none of us have married off yet, but I can imagine that being kind of a strange change - especially the first time! But I'm glad you had a good time :)

    ALSO, LOVE the hair cut!!

  10. Fake Christmas or not, your outfit looks great! I'm glad that you got to celebrate with everyone-- definitely makes it more Christmassy that way. :) Who cares if it's a little early, neh? I like how your shirt is peeking out of your cardigan and your top has the most perfect plaid pattern <3

  11. NICOLE. Your hair looks amazing. I think you'll be able to make it look just as great. (: I need a moment to get over how good your hair cut looks.

    ...

Okay, so yeah. I'm glad Fake Christmas was almost as good as the real thing for you. Are you going to have another one, or was that it? Hehe. And your holiday-esque outfits are making me happy.

  12. Oh. My. Gawd. I LOVE YOU HAIR!!!!!!! It looks AMAZING! I am usually not a fan of the short hair cut, but you seriously look perfect!

Glad to hear you had a good faux Christmas. I live in DC, while my dad lives in San Diego and my mom lives in Denver. And then there is my boyfriend and his family, who I would like to see over Christmas too. Too many people to see and too little time!! It is sweet that your family went out of their way to celebrate all together!

  13. I love this festive outfit...and your hair looks SO CUTE!! Bobs rock, and this one looks great on you! This is the first Christmas that I won't be with my sister, too, since she's not coming back to the U.S. from Australia until January. It's really cool that your family had a fake Christmas so everyone could be together! I kind of wish people would do that more often...I mean, space Christmas parties out so there's even more time to see everyone and no one gets their feelings hurt.

  15. Since my grandmother has gotten older, we all do mini christmases with her! So we have lots of fake christmases too! It's too hard to get everyone all together sometimes once everyone is older and families have grown even that much more

    Cute outfit!!

  16. Adorable outfit! You work colored tights like no one else I know. You're also rocking this short hair!! What an exciting change. :)

Christmas around our house is going to be a bit unusual. I have a brother who wants to spend time with his girlfriends family, so that's one extra Christmas we're going to have to do early. And then with the weird split parents thing for the firs time, that's another Christmas. And then there is the one of just my mother, sister and I (since like you guys, we're VERY close!) Thankfully I've got all my shopping done. Well... with the exception of one gift, but I know exactly where it's at the next time I'm out.

  19. Eek....love, love, love the hair!! I am seeing other bloggers with really darling short haircuts all over the place and am really wanting to follow suit. This bob is perfect on you!! Love the outfit as well...so Christmasy but practical for everyday as well. The plaid blouse is dear. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas...my hubs and I have to split holidays as well and at first I thought it would be a huge bummer, but you're right, it's all about family and being with those you love...not the actual day itself. Happy holidays love!!
