A Semester Reflection

IMG_6703edit

I'm quite tempted to use a baseball analogy here, since these photos were taken on a baseball diamond, so if you'll allow me just one, I would like to say that I can't help but feel that I haven't been "stepping up to the plate" this semester. I feel like I've been taking the easiest way out a lot lately, when it comes to papers or readings or class participation. I feel like all of my papers have been subpar -perhaps singles rather than home runs? I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself - and I'm sure my teachers would agree. It's disconcerting because I feel like every semester I get more and more rundown, less and less excited about the work I'm doing. My first year in college, I pushed myself really hard and I think it payed off. Now, I'm almost done with my second year and I can't help but feel like a bit of a failure. I've been doing all my work, but even as a I view these last two and half papers I have to get done I can't help but feeling like they won't come out well, like I've given up on putting a lot of work in to my psychology class because it's frustrated me so much and I feel like I haven't come very far at all.

Maybe it's too early to be reflecting on these sorts of things, since I still have two weeks to get through, but it's been weighing on my mind all day so I thought I would write about it. I wore this outfit last week, on a day when it was too cold for shorts. I was a little antsy about wearing a sweater with shorts, but I often wear items together that are meant for separate seasons, so I think this turned out alright.

Top, Purse: Urban Outfitters
Shorts: Zara
Belt: Delia's
Shoes: Keds

  1. Sigh... this post made me miss college so much... and baseball and summer sports! Anyway, your striped tee is so cute; I like how youthful this ensemble is.

  2. I like the sweater and shorts combo!

Don't beat yourself up over this. Maybe you need to figure out why you are feeling less inspired/motivated with your school work. Maybe you are taking on too much? Maybe the classes/professors are to blame? I think we all go through stages where we feel unmotivated so don't feel like you're the only one going through this. Keep your head up. :-)

  4. ack! you're so cute! i think the sweater goes GREAT with the shorts! reading this brought back a lot of memories of college, and how the end of the semesters were always the hardest times. you're running on "empty," stressed out and it's very difficult to muster up the motivation to put your heart into anything. just keep doing the best you can..it will be over soon, and then all summer awaits! Xx

  5. I feel the exact same way! This is my last quarter in college, and I feel like I'm doing just enough work to get by so that I can graduate next month! This nice weather especially has me wanting to be outside playing rather than in class and hardly listening!

I also really love that last photo with the footprints!

  7. On the plus side, you're still stylish as the semester winds down! One thing I've learned in my six years total at university, is that often you think a paper is awful, but your teachers are marking so many that they don't really notice. I hope that's the case with the ones I've handed in today! ; D

  8. oh, wow. I read all of this and I'm like "no freaking way!". I mean, we are seriously having the exact same thoughts. It's the end of my second year in college and it's like everything is going downhill from there. but maybe we're just exaggerating, idk... it sucks feeling that way though! Oh I love the baseball references hahaha :) and you look very cute!

  9. I feel entirely the same way. Because I worked super super hard in the Architecture department for two years and just recently switched back to graphic design (my original major). Now I'm just completely unmotivated because the work seems too easy. So I feel like I should be able to be doing really kick-butt projects but am instead just getting things done and doing mediocre work.

Hang in there. I'm trying to find the motivation too :(

Love the outfit though! It makes me happy that not all the stripes are the same color. That really adds a little character :) Plus, you can't really go wrong with high waisted shorts.

  13. All you need is a baseball cap to top off an already perfect outfit. Love it!

I understand what you mean. Whenever I go to a concert, I get extremely motivated to practice even harder but that wears off after a week or so. I think setting a goal will help you get motivated again. Break barriers! But it's natural to be feeling what you're feeling. Don't get too down on yourself!

  14. I hear you, although in highschool I feel lacklustre over schoolwork too lately while the every year hasnt compared to the first. But I like to think this is a new experience and I shouldn't try to recreate previous times. you look lovely, wonderful sweater and short combintion.

  15. Good luck with your papers. I hope you can register for some courses next year that will reinvigorate you and get you really excited again. In the mean time since your so reflective I'm sure you have time to revise and make things better. I love mixing seasons too! Love that striped top!

  16. I really like this combination and that last photo is so cute! I know exactly how you feel about college work, I always feel myself just giving in and being resigned to the fact it won't come out right. Recently its been really discouraging that work that I put a lot of work into is getting less recognition and lower marks than work that people did the night before the deadline and didn't even care about. ugh! makes me not want to bother at all! oh well, we must soldier on! x
