Back In High School

IMG_6837edit

This outfit really made me feel like I was back in high school wearing a uniform, albeit a cute sassy uniform. It's probably got something to do with the fact that I'm wearing the dress like a jumper, a button down shirt, and my hair in pigtails, not to mention that the button down shirt is FROM my high school uniform, and it is huge on me. Since I've lost weight, I've updated the majority of my closet with clothes that fit me. The only two places I'm lacking are probably light cardigans and button downs. They're just two things I never thing to buy, so I have to wear my oversized ones, which is alright, but can sometimes look ridiculous. Like, I absolutely had to cuff the sleeves of this shirt because they were so big they kind of looked like wings growing from my arms!

I know I usually talk a little bit about my day in my posts, but yesterday was kind of a crummy one. I was feeling really down about my inability to get a job/have work experience (I got rejected from H&M), my inability to make friends (I was feeling bold and went and sat with this boy who seems cool after class and it was just kind of awkward, but I'm sure it'll make me laugh in enough time), and I was just feeling like I wasn't living a "college life." I'm feeling better now, but I don't want to be a super mope and bring my posts down too often.

  1. This uniform inspired look is so cute! Wouldn't be much nicer if uniforms could have an owl print? I think they would ;) You look adorable. Hope you're feeling better about those work and uni friend things. I'm sure you'll surpass it :)

  2. I love the way you layered this!! I love school uniform style things. Especially japanese school girls OMG SAILOR MOON IS MY ICON... anyway, don't worry about feeling awkward. In High school I was the most awkward person ever. I was the start of the musicals and head of drama club haha. I never went to parties or did anything cool or badass.

So, in college I conducted an experiment where I would make an effort to have a life. I ended up being super popular and I was friends with everyone on campus. I was invited to like every party freshman year and everyone knew me.... then I realized that this wasn't really me.. and the experiment ended haha. Now I'm back to normal. I drink by myself, hate parties, and spend my time singing show tunes, playing dress up, and coloring. This was the longest comment ever, sorry I just gave you my whole life story.... The moral of the story is, don't worry about trying to live the whole "college" lifestyle because it's lame and most people are fake. And I would much rather have 3 real friends than 100 beer chugging sorority ones any day! End rant.

  3. awww! Super cute dress!
I'm sure you are going to get a job soon! You don't want to work at H&M anyway...

  4. This is so cute! The owl dress looks great as a jumper, and your tan accessories are perfect.

You'll find the right job. I was rejected for a job at an ice-cream parlor when I was in college but soon after ended up working at a movie theater where I met several friends after being a total loner for over a year. Don't feel bad about H&M! I'm sure they had a LOT of applicants.

  5. Nicole, have you tried working at Gap? I worked there for 5 years and I am going back to work there for a couple times a month! If you need a reference, just put me down. In my experience, Gap is awesome when it comes to hiring many different types of people... it's not just cookie-cutter or anything.

I want your cute little dress!!

  6. So cute! I love how you wore this dress as a jumper, & the sleeves look really nice all cuffed up on that blouse. Also, your hair is suuuuper adorbs in pigtails. I'm sorry you had a rough day. :(

  7. Aww, I'm sorry. I've definitely felt like that. The "college life" never quite came together for me. But after college life really did. The exciting things in life do happen, just not always in the same order to all people. But good for you for trying to talk to people. It won't always be awkward. Promise. : )

  8. I can completely relate to the off-day you had. I graduated college in December 2009, and I am *still* struggling to find a job in my major field. As for your encounter with that boy, believe me, that's much bolder than I ever was in college! I certainly didn't live a stereotypical college life (one complete with parties and huge groups of rowdy friends), but I definitely found my niche after a while and hung out with lots of crazy smart and awesome English majors and super creative dance majors. You'll find your niche, too; you seem so sweet and lovely!

Anyways, I love your outfit here! Really, how can you go wrong with a jumper printed with little owls? ;)

  9. The job market is about as far in the crapper as it can get now and days unfortunately. I myself have been unemployed for 2 years- partially because of no school, but mostly because jobs are infinitely harder to come by. The best you can do is get heaps and heaps of applications and be hopeful! Something will come your way soon :)

Meanwhile, you're looking pretty darling in this look! The collar peeping out of the dress is too cute for words!

  10. I'm sorry you had a crummy day, hang in there. Try to focus on doing things you love and hopefully you can make friends that way. Are there any local bloggers where you live that you can have meet-ups with? I think that would be fun! And in the mean time (before you find a job) you can try a new hobby or volunteer. :D

  11. I went to an elementary school that didn't require uniforms, but sometimes I would see uniform clothes for sale in department stores and always really wanted to get some and wear them to school just for fun! I love you uniform-inspired look!

  12. the job thing is so hard. it's especially hard when you don't have experience or if you're like me and haven't had a job for a while. you'll find something soon i'm sure!
i wore a uniform in first and second grade, and i always loved it.
you do make an excellent sassy school girl.

  13. Oh that print is so sweet! I love it :) I wish school uniforms were this cute.

Have your tried applying at a Best Buy? They hired me for the holidays when I was 18, just because I was 18 lol. I also worked at Mc D's FOREVER but it was my first job and got me some experience. Its not a glamorous job, but maybe start there, get a few months in and then try the retail stores again?

  14. such a darling jumper styled in preppy form. love this, being feminine is nice too. the pigtails are such a cute touch! my job hunt has been crummy to, I go in thinking I'm completely qualified and then my spirits are downturned. But no worries keep your head held high and that job will come.

  15. gasp! i love owls!! that's sucky that your day went like that. i've been having a terrible week and i didn't post a single thing until today. good for you for being bold with that boy! i agree with what someone else commented about how things get better after college. i'm about to graduate (and i have MAJOR senioritis) and it's already looking so good! college sucks, man.

  16. Lady, I just LOVE everything about this outfit. That dress is just the cutest (owls, yes please!) I had to wear a uniform for eight years so I totally understand everything you talked about. Mine was plaid so whenever I put on a plaid skirt I think of my elementary school days. Glad to hear you are having a better day today!!!!! xx

  17. Again with the completely relatable post, it's uncanny! I guess we can all relate. At the beginning of the year I had job woes but one will come eventually. Recently I have been talking about feeling removed from University/College life and wondering how I can make it more of a fulfilling experience (the result: change to a science degree!). And I have been at university for two years and have met three people who I scarecely see, it's not a friendly environment, people are too competative to be your peers. College does suck a bit, but at least you look spiffy, and your smart and perceptive. Keep being honest I love reading your posts ^-^ x

  22. I would love going to school if this was my uniform!!! It looks totally cute! I wanna wear something like it today! off to my closet to see if I can copy you....

As for feeling down, Ive been rejected from every good job i apply for, I still dont know what I want to be when I grow up or where I picture myself. I still live at home!! haha I just keep thinking what will happen will happen, and as long as I stay open to options the right stuff with start happening to me what it's supposed to! Blind faith?

  23. I LOVE this outfit!! I would enjoy going to school more if I dressed like this..but I'm kind of lazy :( I'm not a morning person at all. And I spent the majority of my high schools in jeans, tennis shoes, and school logo T-shirt until my awakening to the wonderful world of fashion in my junior year...
