At the End of the Day

feb 6 3

On Mondays and Wednesdays, I've got a bit of a hike from my last class back to the parking lot, which are on opposite sides of the campus. Today I decided to take out my ipod and listen to some music to make the stroll a little more pleasant. Whenever I listen to music while I ride on the bus or train, or go for a walk, I always kind of imagine I'm in a movie, and get super thoughtful (normative behavior, I'm sure). Today, I dug my hands in my pockets and started to think about the serendipitous nature of knowing who I know. While lamenting an unrequited love, I think it was my mother that said "Well, he may not be in your life for you to be in a relationship with, but he's at least teaching you something about what you want and what you don't want." In my opinion, there are simply too many people in the world that I will never meet, so I think that everyone I do meet has something to offer and teach me, and I to them as well. Whether it's the curly haired boy in my history class that reminds me of my ex, the girl on campus who rocks midi-length skirts better than anyone I've ever seen, or the postal worker in Tarrytown who pleasantly jokes with and chides everyone who mails something, I feel like I'm always learning from the people I come across.

  1. Yeah, it's amazing how much you can learn just from observing people. I LOVE that advice from your mother too. That is so wise and true. I am going to try and remember that.

I loveee that dress too. I totally thought it was vintage. I'm all about that shape right now and the pattern is fab!

  2. The pattern on this dress is amazing. I do think that a lot of things happen 'for a reason' that every embarrassment and heart break I've had brought me to this point in my life. Where I am happy & healthy. I'm not really a fatalist but I think it's better to look back on mistakes and sad times to see what we can learn from them not just focus on the emotional responses.

  3. Create a playlist and it'll be like your very own life soundtrack!

mothers are so wise! I recently had a little breakdown, but once I called my mom, she made me feel so much better about it. they always know what to say!

listening to music makes everything so much more pleasant! since I graduated, I took that same listening-to-music-while-walking-around-campus habit and I now listen to it all day at work, and the gym, and I've even taken up listening while I shop at WalMart (because otherwise I'd go crazy! haha... ugh).

such a cute dress, too! I love how the pattern stops near the top!

  5. Eeek I love that you wrote that-- I feel like I, too, learn from people I say. The things about them kind can sometimes interfere with some part of you and make you learn things about yourself... sort of? I don't know how to put that into words. But yeah.

Anyway, cute cute adorable dress. I like the pop of purple in your socks. Too adorable as always, lovely love! :D

  6. That is some super advice! I've had similar thoughts in the past when a friend would come and go in my life, or I would meet someone (very insignificantly) and feel some sort of impact from them. It's great to think that they all serve(d) a purpose and are not just a coincidence.

I'm loving this outfit a lot! You managed to put brown and back together flawlessly, it looks really good!

  7. I always walk around with my ipod and pretend I'm in a movie! Haha. I really like what your mom said, it can be kind of easy to forget that people are in our lives for a reason, even if it's just something small. And, I love that dress so much! I'm going to go hunt it down on asos.

So well said my dear! I too am so influenced and impacted by everyone around me. I love what your mom said about unrequited loves being a lesson (rather than just a heartbreak). Love the headband and those boots! You look amazinggggg<3
