Don't You Know That It's Insane?

Hello there! So, I've decided that today is a designated spring cleaning day. Of course, last night I decided it was a designated Apply To Internships and Fix Up Your Resume Day, but I woke up and, uh, felt more like cleaning? Yeah, let's go with that. I just really need to clean out my closet. I have so many tops that I just don't wear but that I hold on to thinking, "Well, maybe someday!" but I just never wear them. Also, I need to at least move all of my tee shirts out of my room. I've discussed this before, but in high school I had an emo/punk phase where ALL I wore were band tees and hoodies. So many that I have a dresser FULL of both of those items. So, it's time to move those out so I can have way more space for my clothes. It's a little bit sad, but necessary. I don't think I'll do a blog shop or anything 'cause I don't think there would be too much interest, but I guess let me know if I'm wrong!

Anyway, I honestly wore this outfit to sit around the house and play video games. Life's been lazy up in these parts, but I feel kind of gross if I spend too much time in my pajamas.

A Panoply of Song

IMG_5789edit

Hello there! Sorry for updating a bit late today. I think spring break's gotten the best of me. I've been being all sorts of lazy, watching Criminal Minds and eating Girl Scout cookies. I guess sometimes it's just nice to be lazy, especially during a hectic semester. After I finish typing up this post, Zak and I are planning to watch My Neighbor Totoro. Have any of you guys seen it? We've kind of started this weekend tradition of watching a Hayao Miyazaki movie. Last weekend we watched Castle in the Sky and LOVED it. Every movie I've seen of his I've loved, though, so I guess that's not a surprise! His movies are just so fun and whimsical and meaningful. So good. What's your favorite Miyazaki movie?

I wore this outfit on Saturday to a birthday party for Zak's uncle. I decided to wear something a bit more casual, and since I'm ridiculous, I had to wear this top I thrifted the day before. I really love the color and can't wait to pair it with pretty much all of my skirts! Also, I got to take pictures in Zak's Uncle's back yard, which was wonderful to explore. They have a stone wall around their yard and even a little pond!

Vintage Feeling

Hello there! I hope you all are having lovely weekends so far. So far, I've been sleeping too much (really, it's terrible) and enjoying not having to frantically do work now that I'm on break! I wore this outfit on Friday to o a little thrifting. The skirt is, as I'm sure you've noticed, a bit longer than what I usually wear. I'm not sure whether I should shorten it or leave it this length. What do you guys think? I think the skirt has a real vintage feeling at this length, which I like, but I'm wondering if it would be more "me" in a shorter length. Either way, the pattern was what really drew me to the skirt. It's a colorful floral, and the fabric feels like velvet!

As I had mentioned, I finally did a bit of thrifting. I got a green top (which I wore yesterday, so you'll get to see it soon!), a denim vest which I've been wanting for the LONGEST, a denim jacket, and two little decorative dishes with painted scenes from San Francisco on them. All in all, I was quite happy with what I found!

Where Have All The Cowboys Gone

IMG_5760 2

Hello there! So, today started off a bit...crazy? All but ONE highway leading to my school was closed due to flooding, which led to an adventurous AND successful attempt at getting me to a meeting with my teacher. Though, I was a half hour late. When I spoke with my teacher (who also commutes to the school) he explained that he was also a half hour late to his lecture! Hooray, lateness! Later that day, I got lunch with two of my closest friends from high school. It was really nice to catch up them, since I haven't seen them since the beginning of January. It's always nice to have friends that no matter how long you go without seeing them, you can always pick up the conversation like you hadn't really been apart at all. After lunch, I did a little bit of thrifting. I got a few garments, but I think I may have been most excited about finding one of my favorite childhood VHS's - We Sing The Big Rock Candy Mountain! I can't wait to force Zak to watch it with me over break!

Now, onto this outfit. I have been SO excited to wear this skirt ever since I got it from Buffalo Exchange a few weeks ago. It has COWBOYS and HORSES all over it! I've always wanted a horse print dress from Modcloth, but they were always too expensive for me. So, imagine how much I totally nerded out in the store when I found this skirt for twelve dollars! It's so fun and unique, though I was a bit stumped with how to style it. I think it'll be fun to wear in the warmer months, when I don't have to layer up and wear tights, and I can really just showcase the print of the skirt!

Let Me See Those Eyes

Hello there! I'm currently stationed in the library, finishing up some of the last work I have to do before spring break next week. It's funny. Campus always feels so strange just before a long break. I guess this is helped by the gray, rainy day, but campus just feels so calm and quiet and empty. It's kind of wonderful and eerie all at once.

Anyway, yesterday felt like a jean day, so jeans I wore. I'm always pretty stumped on how to style jeans. So many girls can wear them in such cool, classy ways, but I often feel a bit shlumpy in them. I liked how this look came together (but I did mildly adjust it before leaving the house, shhhhh), it just felt a little boring. So, I quickly attempted to "spice it up" with a pair of my mom's old frames, which left me feeling just spicy enough. Also, I'm wearing a top as a dress because I am having a SHIRT CRISIS. I have so few wearable tops in my wardrobe. I feel like I always wear the same four or five over and over. I guess it's hard for me, for some reason, to justify an expensive top. I'm much more likely to spend my money on a dress or skirt, which leaves me topless. Well...that's not quite what I meant. But you get the idea, right? I'm hoping to do some thrifting this weekend to find some. But where do you guys mostly buy your tops? I could use some advice!

The Season Rubs Me Wrong

IMG_5728

Hello there! I'm going to have to keep this post a bit short seeing as I really should be reading write now and have class in an hour and a half. I've been doing a lot of thinking and worrying lately, as I'm sure you guys have noticed through my posts. And, as I was watching Glee last night (I know, I know), I had a moment of self-realization. Basically, I really just want to be a better version of the person I am right now. I've been feeling, thanks mostly to school, that I need to change myself. That who I am is not good enough. That I can't be shy or reserved, that I'm too introspective, and various other things. And the thought of that really upset me. After thinking about it though, I don't have to change anything about myself, I just have to better myself. I am shy and awkward, and I'm okay with those two traits being indicative of my personality, but I don't want them to limit me. I don't want to have a whole ton of regrets in a few years, or even worse, think that the people who were trying to get me to change. Instead, and this may very well be all talk, I want to just be a better me. Let's see how that goes, hmm?

Also, I was talking yesterday about my "hobo poem," and I did end up writing it for my class later today. So, since I have to share it with my class, I thought I should share my strange introspection with you guys as well. Basically, a homeless man bumped into while I was downtown, and I felt a bit, well, grossed out, which I then felt horribly guilty about. Also, I had to use 6 words from a list of about 20, so some parts aren't how I'd like them exactly. Well, here goes

Dear Homeless Man Who Bumped Into Me on Third Avenue,

Where are you going, and with what?
Flying like a lark in winter,

Above the stone city’s sidewalks, moving as slowly
As a cutworm with your portable shopping cart.

Your eyes were empty as craters
As you walked by facing backwards,

Lured by a gentle precision,
Careful not to lose anything.

Then, your shoulder hit my shoulder
As gently as a dropping eye lash.

I felt guilty as I clutched my arm,
like a fresh wound had started to burn, and again

When I saw that your face, crimped with age,
Looked more like the sun than the moon.

The way you commanded your cart,
More like a Roman chariot now,

Shot through me like a cold wind
Leaving me stopped at the curb

And you, paces ahead, moving forward
With life etched in your palms.

Thanks for reading!

Until tomorrow,
Nicole

Half Awake In Our Fake Empire

So, this morning's got me feeling like a huge klutz. I kept dropping things like my CAMERA which is thankfully okay and I even left my wallet at home. Hooray! I'm going to blame it on getting hardly any sleep last night due to my worries due to my poetry class due to my teacher. So, really, it's his fault right? Glad we're all in agreement. Oh, it's really my fault that I worry so much, so even in jest I shouldn't pin my anxiety on anyone but myself. School's got me feeling all sorts of incompetent, but mainly my poetry class is making me insane. My teacher gave me a lecture about participating in class AND LIFE and kept calling on me all class because I wouldn't raise my hand. Also, my only thoughts for today's poetry assignment are to write a poem addressed to a homeless man that bumped into me in Manhattan. I don't even know, okay. Maybe I'll share it if I go completely crazy, which I'm sure I will by class tomorrow.

Anyway, now that I've whined/ talked about hobos for a good five minutes, I should talk about my clothes. I picked up not one, but two of these cardigans on sale at Urban Outfitters after seeing one on Michal's blog the other day. I'm actually wearing one again today because they're just so comfy and warm, and it's freezing out, and at 7 AM I want comfy and warm and nothing else. Well, maybe a bagel, too.
