The Other, Gold

Hello there! So, today I attended an alumnae brunch at my high school. I've talked about it before on my blog, but I was very attached to my high school experience and the teachers I met there. So, it was nice to go back and reminisce, and make some new memories as well. I got to see some of my truly best friends, and we roamed the ol' hallways, skipping, spilling coffee, and being happy and silly. I saw some of my most favorite teachers and had a good time talking and laughing with them as well. Afterwards, my friends and I went outside to take pictures in the snow! My high school has a really BEAUTIFUL campus, which I dearly miss even though my college campus is equally lovely, so we took advantage of it to snap some fun snow pictures.

As you can see, we're really good at self-times jumping shots.

Hope you all have lovely weekends!

Slow Down, You Move Too Fast

Hello there! So, the interview that I was stressing all week about ended up not happening. I got an email late last night informing me that it had been canceled. I have to say, I was quite bummed out. This interview made me feel like I would finally be headed in the direction of a career. It felt a lot like a first step I was just about to take. I really do want the internship, so I'm working on rescheduling an interview, and I'm really hoping it works out!

So, I was going to do a whole "what I would have worn" post, but I thought that was too self-pitying, and I didn't really want to get dressed up for something that wasn't happening. So, instead, I decided to get prettied up in non businessy clothes. I'm actually wearing a few things that I received for Christmas. The sweater is from my grandma (who also gave me some very cute hairbows!) and the fur collar is from my mom. I also got a super cute ring from Dear Beatrice that I just love! Sometimes putting on a few new things can really lift my mood. I realize that sounds kind of materialistic, but it's true! There's just something about wearing something you've never styled before that's kind of...rejuvenating? Maybe.

Meadowlark, Fly Your Way Down

Hello! Today, Zak and I drove over to this HUGE park (bigger than central park!) a few minutes away from my house. I've been wanting to go and explore the park with him for a while. And boy, was it lovely. The park was somewhat empty, still coated in snow. There were so many trees for climbing on and stumps for standing on. I saw so many places that I want to take pictures in in the coming days! We even made our way over to the huge playground. I actually found this really cool spot with leaves growing all around it in the playground where I took these photos. And I, of course, had to take a turn on the swings! After the park we went for a yummy meal at the local diner - a perfect way to end a lovely afternoon! Now, though, I'm going to try and convince Zak to mock interview me to prepare for tomorrow! Eep, I'm so nervous!

So Everybody Put Your Best Suit or Dress On

Hello there! Since I wasn't doing anything much today, besides some cleaning, reading, and mario tennis-ing, I figured I would put on an outfit that I didn't get a chance to photograph last week. This dress is one of my favorite things I got for Christmas. It's covered in OWLS! I actually wore it on Christmas day but didn't manage to snap any photos of it then either. I've been feeling super lazy lately, and that's probably because I've been acting super lazy lately. I feel like every year before break I make big plans of a million things I want to do and then things one by one fall by the wayside. I've got a few things lined up for this week though, including my first ever interview for an internship! Goodness, I am so nervous. I figure, though, that it can't hurt to have experience interviewing, whether this goes wonderfully or not, right? Also, in a frenzy of wanting to do more fun things, I looked up local NYC flea markets, and found out about the Hell's Kitchen Flea market that happens every weekend, so I hope I can go to that! Anyone from the area ever been?

We'll Get A Table Near the Street

Confession: I did not actually wear these shoes out today. I did, however, wear the outfit. I got these shoes for Christmas and they are seriously the best. They're high but not so high that I won't wear them, and they're super comfortable. I would have worn them, but the streets are disgustingly slushy and I didn't want to get them all ruined when I just got them! So, alas, I opted for a flat. I know, this is all VERY interesting. I wanted to keep things simple today because I just did a little shopping, or rather returning and exchanging. I got a few things from Urban Outfitters, a dress from Zara, and another David Sedaris book, since I'm PUMMELING through the one I just got (only one story left, sadface). Also, I'm not doing much of anything tonight except eating too many hors d' oeuvres and playing Apples to Apples. What are you all up to tonight?

(Half a) Yearly Recap

So, I know that I haven't been blogging for a full year, but it's been about seven months now (crazy!) so I figured I would do a recap of my favorite outfit from each month I've been blogging. It's been so much fun to see everyone else's reflection posts! I didn't get to take pictures of my outfit today because I ran out of the house semi-frantically to go to a friend's house, and when I got home the sun had set. I'll probably recreate it though, since this is the second time I've warn this dress and haven't been able to take pictures of it. Anyway, without further ado, a half year in recap:

June

It's funny. I no longer even have this skirt (thought I did swap it with the lovely Amber Rose) though this photo was from just a few months ago. I really like how this outfit came together in a light, summery way.

July

So, part of the reason I chose this photo for July was because I was in beloved San Francisco. I want so badly to visit again (hopefully this summer!) I had never been on a plane before, let alone across the entire country. My trip to San Francisco opened my eyes to so many wonderful things, mostly that I can not stay in New York. I also got the dress I'm wearing at a semi-thrift store in Berkeley while I was there, and I'm wearing my big ol' nerdy glasses that are now broken (sadface!)

August

This is one of my favorite outfits. I remember waking up and saying to myself that I wanted to be more creative with my outfits than I had ever been before, and this is what I came up with. I really liked how it turned out, and I think it was really a start to my finding out what exactly my style is.

September

The one time that I wore knee socks successfully, without feeling like I was back in my high school uniform.

October

This is one of those outfits that I feel perfectly reflects me and my style. I put this outfit together, and things just felt right. I really felt like me, whatever that really means. It's kind of quirky, a little sassy, and not too girly but kind of girly enough. That sounds about right, no?

November

It was really hard to pick a November favorite! I'm not positive this one is my for real favorite, but it is up there. I remember that I put this outfit together after wearing a week-full of crazy all over the place outfits, none of which felt right. This one did though, and it was wonderful.

December

I liked a whole lot of my December outfits as well, but there was kind of no beating this one. This outfit made me feel so wonderful, and I can't top that.

Do you have a favorite? I'd love to know :)

Until tomorrow,

Nicole

Day At the Museum

So, today is my brother's last day in New York for a while, so I thought it would be nice if we all went out to the Museum of Natural History (also I kind of have really been wanting to go again) so off we went! The Museum of Natural History is kind of a combination of sciency things and cultural things. We saw artifacts and clothing from Native American cultures, as well as ancient Chinese and Middle Eastern Tribes, but we also saw an exhibition on the brain and also dinosaur and other ancient animal bones. I never get tired of it! Here are some (a lot) of photos of some of my favorite and least favorite (WHALES) things, and perhaps an outfit shot or two :)
