Getting There Is Getting By

IMG_6629edit

Hello there! So, I am almost literally on my way out the door as I write this post. Today has been a pretty easygoing Friday. I went for a jog at the track this morning, which was WONDERFUL. There was this cool breeze blowing the whole time I jogged (about 2 1/4 mile with a few walking breaks) and afterwards I collapsed in this soft patch of grass right next to the track. Quite a nice start to the day! Unfortunately, such a nice start to the day led me to having a lazy rest of the morning. I was hoping to get some serious work done on my final project, but I really just got one paragraph/page done. Whoops. It's a start...right? Eh. It's hard to do work on Fridays! Anyway, in a little bit I'll be heading over to Zak's since his brothers are having their family birthday party tonight. I look forward to some running away from the party to the little park near his house and returning for cake later. Hooray!

So, this is what I wore to school yesterday. I was actually really lucky that I was able to snap these shots just before the sky opened up and unleashed all of its fury in the form of rain. I picked up this lace blouse at H&M over the weekend and look forward to wearing it cardigan-less once the weather warms up (and I tone my chub arms?)

Simpleton

IMG_6605edit

Hello there! First, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who already entered my giveaway! If you haven't yet, you can enter until Saturday and try to win a super cute bag! Anyway, this is what I wore yesterday. We had another wonderfully warm day and I really just wanted to wear something breezy and simple. I forgot how simply I like to dress when the weather gets warm! It's weird to not have to layer up anymore - well, as long as this warm weather lasts. I wore this outfit to my poetry workshop, which was quite a class. My teacher told us that our assignment for next week was to write "opposite poems" - poems that go against the work we've been doing all year. FUN. No, not fun. Not fun at all. We all went around in a circle and told each other what to do or not do for our opposite poems. I was told to write a poem in the voice of a gangster, in hip hop format, with a one word title. Yeah. I would say I got the most difficult assignment (I mostly think the people in my class thought it would be fun/silly to see quiet, ol' me write a gangster rap-esque poem) but the poor boy next to me has to write a sonnet about a 52 year old women going through menopause. I've already got a few ideas brewing in my mind, and I'm planning to make it the most "me" gangster poem I can. Is that cheating? Oh well!

Giveaway Time!

Hello! So, a few weeks ago I reached 200 followers (Hooray!) and I wanted to do a giveaway as a thank you! This giveaway has been a bit delayed mainly because I'm too picky and have been having trouble finding something perfect to send to one of you! When I was out shopping, I saw this at H&M and thought, "Man, That's PERFECT!"...

IMG_6579edit

Hooray! You can win this fun floral purse! I thought it would be perfect for summer time activities like going to the beach, or picnicing, or spelunking, or cake baking, or road tripping, or dance parties (Or whatever you want, really)!

To Win:
1. Follow my blog via Google Friend Connect or Bloglovin'
2. Leave me a comment telling me how you follow, your email address, and what you would carry around in this bag if you win it!

The giveaway will close this Saturday night (April 30) and I should have the winner up by Sunday's post! Good luck!

Also, I figured I would include a few little photos from yesterday's outfit, to make this a complete post, so..

Just Saying

IMG_6537edit

So, I've been a bad blogger lately, and I want to address that. I've been posting fairly frequently, but I haven't been commenting you guys back as much as I want to. The reason I wanted to bring this up was just because, honestly, I feel bad. You all are so supportive and sweet, and reading your comments always makes my day better, and I feel like I'm not being there for you guys. It's mainly school that's causing this. It's the last three weeks (conference week as they're called at my school) and all the work I've been putting off has to get done. When I do a post lately, it's a quick one since there's a lot I have to do, and I rarely have time to leave comments on all of your blogs. I feel like a lot of times, I choose blogging over work, and during the semester that's fine and I can deal with it, but right now, I'm afraid I'm trying to unevenly split myself two ways, when most of my focus needs to be on school. So, if posts are a bit more sporadic in the next few weeks, it's because I'm trying to get my butt in gear for school. I want to try and balance my posting with my commenting, instead of posting a lot quickly and hardly getting back to you guys, because the reason I started blogging in the first place was to be a part of the community, and I don't want that to fall by the wayside. I hope you all understand - I'm sure you all will because you're all great!

Anyway, this outfit is from yesterday when I did a bit of shopping. It may have been just a tad too cold for shorts, but who cares? I apparently do not. I kind of felt like a (chic?) camp counselor in this outfit, and that's fine by me. Oh, and keep an eye out for a giveaway coming either tonight or tomorrow! :)

Sunday Best

IMG_6528edit

So, happy Easter to all of you who celebrate! And to everyone else, happy Sunday! I had a lovely day of eating, playing in the grass, eating, hiding eggs/ being the honorary Easter bunny, and eating. The weather was WONDERFUL for most of the day. It was seventy degrees and sunny for most of the day, and even the bit of rain was nice and refreshing. Now, I'm home, my feet are a little achy from being 4.5 inches off the ground all day, and I need to go find my Easter basket and eat all of my chocolate. How was your holiday, or just Sunday? :)

Also, photo credit goes to my lovely sister Cheryl! Since she reads the blog, I thought I should mention her photography skills!

Here Comes the Sun

IMG_6503edit

Hello there! So I'm quite happy that it's finally Friday! I'm looking forward to some relaxing and, of course a nice Easter holiday with my family. Is it bad I already know what I'm wearing? Haha. Of course, since the semester's winding down (three more weeks - crazy!) there's going to have be plenty of time devoted to work this weekend. It's such a strange thing to simultaneously want summer vacation to arrive and at the same time want more time to get my work done! Ah, well. I know all of the stress will be worth it in the end (hopefully)!

So, as you can see, I FINALLY tried the tights with open shoes trend. I've been wanting to for a while, but I felt weird about wearing white wedges (alliteration parade!) before spring arrived. I just bought a pair of even higher heels from Forever 21 but since I'm too scared to wear them yet (I am a super clutz!) I opted for these shoes, and I think they worked nicely with the rest of the outfit. I actually put this outfit together in my head, and luckily it looked like I had hoped! Don't you love when that happens?

Should We Talk About the Weather?

IMG_6491edit

Hello there! So, I'm currently at home, since today is my super late school day. I decided to come home for my four hour break in between classes instead of staying at school all day until nine o' clock. The problem with that, though, is that I totally don't want to go back for my later classes! My mom's currently on Easter break, and having her at home makes me feel like I, too, should be on Easter break, but alas, I am not. Also, I've just been feeling extremely disillusioned with school lately. I'm having trouble making myself really care about what I'm learning. I suppose I'll just blame it on there only being three more weeks in the semester?

Anyway, yesterday I was complaining about the weather and griping about how badly I wanted to not wear tights anymore. So, today I manned up and refused to wear tights. Sure, it's a little cold, but I really needed one day of tightslessness to hold me over until the weather decides to finally warm up for the season. I have to say, I really thought I would never find a way to wear this vest. It was one of those purchases where in the store you're all "THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GARMENT I'VE EVER SEEN. I MUST HAVE IT FOR MY OWN!" and then you get home and you're all, "wait, what?" This dress is so light that it needed just a bit of color, and I think the vest does the job alright.

She Was A Day Tripper

IMG_6468edit

So, I've already used this Beatles song as one of my post titles, but it was the first semi-appropriate song that popped into my head, since as I was walking up the stairs just now I tripped like an idiot. So, I am indeed a day tripper in some sense. Anyway, the weather lately has been super rainy and un-springlike. Today started out gray and rainy but turned into a bright, lovely day. Usually I hate when the weather's this fickle because I often choose my outfits based on the weather. Today's outfit worked out though because even though it was rain-city when I left my house, I wore some bright spring-y colors. I really had my heart set on wearing shorts today since it was supposed to be super warm and sunny, but alas, the weatherman betrayed me yet again. Maybe next week!

What A Day for a Daydream

IMG_6439edit

So, I'm kind of cheating by posting this outfit, since I really wore it on Saturday. I just didn't wear anything special today and, hence, did not take outfit photos, so I thought now would be a good time to post these. I really love this dress, and I realized over the weekend that I've only worn it once since I got it. It's just that it's a form fitting dress that shows off my curves. It makes me feel confident and insecure all at once, so I generally stay away from it even though I love the pattern and cut. I really wanted to look and feel cute, though, so I punched my insecurities in the face and just went with it. I'm hoping I won't be too scared to wear it without tights once the weather warms up since it's got an open back that's perfect for spring and summer!

Words Words Words

IMG_6451edit

Hello there! So, today was my first ever poetry reading! It really has been a pretty surreal day. I was nauseatingly nervous before I went on, but once I went up on stage to read, I was much less worried than I thought I would be. It felt natural in some strange way I suppose. It was a really great experience, and I'm happy I pushed myself this week with practicing and such (I'm also so happy the poetry festival committee chose me to be a part of the festival). Now, the thought of writing a new poem feels scary and daunting, because I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself, but I'm trying to keep those thoughts out of my head, and the positive ones in. After my reading, we all headed to a lovely restaurant near my college for a lovely (filling) meal, and now I'm home, sleepy and in a weird happy and terrified daze, finishing up the last of the macarons my sister brought me from the city.

Just a note, I've been terrible with commenting lately, since this weekend has been both stressful and busy, but I will try my best to get back to you all soon. Your support this weekend has made me feel so amazingly happy, and I can't thank you guys enough.

A Mile A Minute

IMG_6420edit

Hello there! I wanted to do a quick little post tonight to give my brain a bit of a rest from all of the stress and craziness I'm currently feeling! Today, I worked a shift at the poetry festival and saw my first reading of the festival. It was really a great experience. Hearing others read their work makes me feel a bit inadequate, but mostly, it gives me such an incredible feeling of happiness. To hear someone read their own poetry is a pretty wonderful thing. Now, I'm freaking out about my reading tomorrow! I'm so very nervous about the whole thing, even though I know it's a good experience. I can't help but feel my poems aren't good enough and that no one wants to hear them. After this post I'm going to practice my reading again, and I guess just hope for the best tomorrow. It's funny how it will only be about 15-20 of my life but I'm stressing over it so much. Oh well, I guess it's just in my nature.

Anyway, I wore this outfit yesterday just to go over to Zak's house. I didn't do all that much except watch tv and eat Chinese food and Ben&Jerry's (diet? what diet?). I guess I just like to dress up?
