Will There Really Be A Morning?

Hello there! So today was Poem In Your Pocket Day! Every year, this day is set aside for everyone to carry around a poem that they love and want to share with them for the day. I chose a poem by Emily Dickinson that starts with the line, Will there really be a morning? It's a poem that, whenever I think of it or hear it or read it, I get happy and thoughtful. It's such a wonderful little thing, like a lot of her poems. If you had to carry around a poem with you for a day, which would you pick? The poetry nerd in me is so very curious!

Anyway, the weather was wonderful today, but after Tuesday's tightsless mishap I decided to play it safe and keep my legs covered. I wanted to wear a dress, or so I thought, but I kept putting outfits involving shorts together in my mind this morning, so that idea clearly won! I'm bummed, though, since I tripped up the stairs, in front of a ton of people (and I think a person I semi-know asked if I was okay, but in a haze of embarrassment I didn't really know if he was talking to me/if I had fabricated his words, and now I feel TERRIBLE about potentially ignoring him), and scuffed my flats! Oh well, guess I'll just have to buy more shoes. Tragic, I know.

Also, on a completely related note, I hear it's fun to stay at the...

So, the story about this is I was trying out new weird poses and stuck my arms up in the air (hence, y). Then, Zak was all, "Now make an m!" And I, being the quick witted one that I am, immediately caught on, and this happened.

Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim

I'm sorry, but when I realized I was wearing corduroy and denim in these photos, I just had to use that David Sedaris book as my post title. So now that nerdy apologies are out of the way, I suppose I should just jump right in to describing my outfit here. Yesterday I had a long day at school, so I wanted to be comfortable but put together. I put this outfit together, was happy, and went on my merry way to school. But, alas. Once I got to school, the temperature dropped ten degrees and the skies opened up, and I found myself dressed quite inadequately. That's one of the bad things about commuting: if I spill something on myself or if the weather decided to be all "screw you, lame-wad" I can't just go back to my dorm and change. I would have to drive home and back, which is a hassle I don't often feel like dealing with. Oh, well! So, don't envy me for my ability to go tights-less, because I was freezing and grumpy, and I doubt that you want to be freezing and grumpy. Also, sorry that these pictures are mostly a blurry mess. My camera joined the weather in saying "screw you lame wad" and would only take blurry photos for me, possibly because it was raining during this photo session.

Too Much Information

Hello there! I would just like to start this post in typical old lady fashion by saying man, oh, man am I TIRED. I think I'm just worn out from not giving myself much of a break this weekend (including yesterday, since I almost have Mondays off). Usually, I'm very lazy on the weekends, don't get much work done, you know. But this weekend was so hectic with going out as well as staying in and getting as much work done as I could. And I'm still not done! Ah well. I did give myself a break on Sunday night to finally watch Howl's Moving Castle. Zak and I have started this tradition of watching a Hayao Miyazaki movie together pretty much every weekend. I think we've seen about five? We've watched Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, and now Howl's Moving Castle (whoops, that's six isn't it? I hate you, math). So, I don't want to gush too much, but I really loved this movie! It's one of my favorites now. All of the characters were great, the plot was engaging, and the world in the story was just so interesting. Also, I may now have a slight crush on the main character, Howl. I probably shouldn't disclose my love of animated characters (when I told my friends back in, oh, third-ish grade that I was in love with Ash Ketchum I was met with quite the stares), but Howl is kind of dreamy and wonderful. NO SHAME.

Now that I've disclosed a piece of information that has undoubtedly made some of you stare confusedly at your computer screens, I'm going to do something safe (normal) and talk about my outfit. I wore this dress, a party dress, just to go meet with a teacher at school. That's all. Then I spent the rest of the day inside, working and maybe napping. While in the dress. I had to wake up fairly early, the weather was in the SEVENTIES, and I just wanted something easy and pretty. Hence, party dress. I repeat, no shame.

Playing Catch Up

Hello there! So, I have been incredibly MIA this whole weekend, and I'm just as incredibly sorry! I've had a hectic past few days, and I foresee myself having a hectic week and next weekend as well. On Friday, I had an interview with The Poetry Brothel, and am now their intern! It's rather exciting, and I just hope I can do a good job for them! Yesterday, I wore this outfit, and did a lot of eating and a lot of work. In the morning, my parents and I headed out to a lovely little farmers market. It was too good. Seriously. I came home with a small loaf of pumpkin bread (DELICIOUS), a quiche (DELICIOUS), and a chicken pot pie (SO DELICIOUS). Just to clear my name, I didn't eat all of this in one sitting. Maybe two, though. And I shared! Maybe.. Anyway, there was also a small church run thrift store right nearby where I picked up two dresses for eight dollars total that I can't wait to wear! They're about midi-length (if I'm using this fashion term correctly?) And I really like how they look. I generally opt for shorter dresses, but I like these the way they are! After that, we got hot dogs at this semi-famous hot dog stand, Walter's hot dogs, and later that night went out for dinner at the Black Whale again. I told you I mostly ate! Throughout the day I also did a whole mess of work. I had (read have) a ton of homework, my first assignment for my internship, and some things to do for the poetry festival next weekend. My head is absolutely spinning! I'm going to try to keep commenting on your blogs, but if I fall apart this week, just know that I love you all and your wonderful blogs, even if my comments are lacking!

Also, just a few things to mention! The lovely Vickie of Adventures in Fashion chose me as her Sunday Spotlight blogger! When I found out, I was just so excited! Thanks again Vickie. Also, I've reached 200 followers (or at least I did when I last checked)! So, hooray! Be on the lookout for a giveaway soon :)

I Would Break Into Blossom

Suddenly I realize that if I stepped out of my body I would break into blossom. - from "A Blessing" by James Wright

Hello there! So, today is my longest day of the week, since I have class from nine thirty in the morning to nine at night. I decided to come home in between classes, though, in an attempt to nap (didn't do that) and get some work done (REALLY didn't do that). Anyway, I decided to go the relatively comfy route by wearing a not too complicated outfit once again. I'm actually wearing two dresses in these photos because I'm ridiculous. I've worn the blue dress with a brown floral button up underneath once before, and I really liked the floral on floral action (that sounds terrible). So, I had a brown floral dress and decided to try to layer it underneath the blue dress, as you can see, and I think it turned out alright. Also, when I saw how much floral I was wearing I couldn't help but think of that line from James Wright's poem "The Blessing." It's quite a delightful, and at times peculiar, poem, and I suggest you guys check it out if you have the time!

Casual Wednesdays

Hello there! So, today I really just needed to be comfortable. I had a crummy class, it was rainy out, and I was went straight from class to dinner with a friend (which was lovely!). Generally, I feel more comfortable in a skirt than I do in pants, but today I just wanted to be casual and cozy, and these corduroy pants were calling my name. I almost didn't photograph this outfit because, well, it's too ordinary I suppose. Then, I realized I was being ridiculous. I thought Kallie's post, where she talks about days where she just doesn't want to dress up and whether or not she wants to photograph those outfits, and remembered that this blog is, in fact, for myself and to document what I wear on a daily basis. Sure, I didn't wear platforms or a peter pan collar or whatever, but it's silly to measure what I wear in terms of whether or not it is "blog-worthy." All my outfits are worthy of posting, because I wear them, and a daily style blog is about posting what you put together, simple or crazy. Anyway, I'm rambling, just got home, and have a ton of work I should do (though I'll probably just give up and settle down to criminal minds and frozen yogurt) so I think that's my cue to end this post!

Fantastic Mrs. Fox

Hello there! So, I was quite excited to post today so I could show off my new fox brooch! I seriously love this thing. Lately, I've become a bit fox obsessed, and I got it into my head that I needed a cute little fox pin to wear around with me all the time. I found the perfect one (cute AND super affordable!) on etsy and decided it had to be in my life. Seriously, I got it yesterday and made sure to wear it today (how many times have I used the word seriously so far in this post?) It's just so cute! Next item on my fox wish list: something in a fox print! I need to just figure out how to sew so I could make myself a simple fox printed shift dress. Hooray, goals!
