Oh, Christmas Tree

Keeping with my unintentional Christmassy-outfit theme, I have to say, I felt like a bit like a Christmas tree today with my brown knee socks and green skirt. And my plaid shirt made me feel like a lumberjack, who chops down the trees (okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch)! I've been pretty much just wrapping presents and writing out labels all day. Yesterday, I picked out what cookies I'm going to make for Christmas eve (mint sandwich cookies, red velvet short bread, and pumpkin snickerdoodles!) and I also decided I'm going to try my hand at pretzel bread on Christmas day! I had my first taste of it when Zak and I when out to a fancy restaurant for our three year anniversary, and I've been wanting more since. I also may or may not have had both IHOP and Domino's pizza yesterday. I can't confirm or deny this information. How was your weekend? Are you trying to get in as much Christmas as you can, too?

It's Shaping Up To Be A Wonderful Holiday

Why am I so giddy, you ask? Well, because it's finally starting to feel like Christmas! Now that I'm done with school for the semester I can focus all of my energy into Christmas and all of its wonderful activities. I spent a large chunk of my day wrapping presents for my grandma. Luckily for everyone in my family, I love to wrap presents. So every year I get hired to do that job, but of course I don't mind. So my afternoon was full of my grandma trying to feed me soup and pudding cups, cursing about the bad gifts she's recieved from various family members, and even discussing my outfit. When I went into her apartment and took off my coat, she said, and I'm pretty sure I quote, "Look at you all dressed up! What are you doing, going out SWING DANCING?!" If only, grandma, if only. Later she commented again and said, "You're dressed like Christmas! Chriiiiistmas, Chriiiiistmas!" It was typical and endearing.

I had a lot of fun today, and I think my grandma wasn't entirely inaccurate when she made her "Christmas Christmas" comment. I think that I've been infusing little bits of Christmas into my outfits lately just because I'm so excited for the holidays! Do any of you find yourselves dressing in more green, red, and white than usual?

I'm Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

So, yesterday is what I like to call a crummy day. It was the first super dooper cold day of the season, so I wimped out, whipped out the big sweaters, and didn't take pictures. Also, I got some upsetting news about my class and just had lame things to deal with. But that was yesterday, and it's over. I'm trying to remember the person who I am and who I really want to be, and I'm trying to focus on who and what I really care about the most. It's easy to get down and instantly forget how much good you really have in your life. So today I've been trying to enjoy myself as much as possible, smiling, reading, sharing company, listening to Fleet Foxes and of course, dressing in a Christmas themed way!


Okay, so this outfit isn't too Christmassy I'll admit it. But my skirt is a Christmas red and my shirt is white (so, candy cane) and to top it off (literally?) I tied a bow around my head, so now I'm like a present. Hooray! I originally wanted to wear my green cardigan ONLY BECAUSE it's super warm, but I held myself back. At least now I know what I'll be wearing on Christmas eve! I'm just so excited about Christmas. Look forward to the holiday season has been keeping me sane and helping me stay motivated to get all my work done. Tonight I'll be baking cookies for one of my classes, and then I'm looking forwards to one of my favorite Christmas activities over the weekend: Christmas cards! I so love writing Christmas cards to people I care about. I think it's such a nice opportunity to remind people how much they mean to you. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?

Hello there! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! My weekend was spent getting work done and finishing up papers and poems. I'm happy to say that I'm done with work for the semester. Things just need to be printed and stapled and handed in at the end of the week. I of course got some fun in, though, eating Christmas cookies, listening to Christmas music, and spending some much needed quality time with Zak.

Since the only reason I had to leave the house today was to meet with one of my teachers, I kept things pretty simple. I've been wanting to wear a skirt with a tee shirt, so I grabbed my (formerly my mom's) old concert tee from a Chicago/Beach Boys concert in 1975 (so cool!), and threw it on with a skirt. I met with my teacher today to talk to him about possibly dropping one of my yearlong classes. I've talked about my philosophy lecture on my blog before, but it just really stresses me out and makes me question my abilities and intelligence. My teacher was very helpful and understanding, and I think I'm going to try and stick it out for the rest of the year.

It's kind of funny. Right now, I'm supposed to be worried about my final papers and projects. But I'm not. Instead, I'm worried about a bunch of other things, like this class, as well as things concerning friendships. I was invited to a party on Friday by one of my friends who was having a get together at her house. I told her I would like to go, but then she told me there would be a bunch of drinking, leading to my polite taking back of my rsvp. I am not naive. I know people my age drink, and often. The problem is that I don't. I have no interest in drinking, hanging around those who do, or seeing any of my friends drunk. This makes things difficult. Sometimes I wish I was like a normal teenager (almost twenty now), that I drank and partied, because it seems easier that way. Easier to make friends, and keep them, and have fun. I know I wouldn't like that lifestyle, though, which is why I don't take part in it. It's just not who I am. I want to be able to have a good time with friends without getting drunk. Maybe I'm just too naive, I don't know. Do any of you have this sort of conflict?

Got To Admit It's Getting Better

Hello there! I'm so happy that it's Friday! This week has been stressful, and this weekend is not going to be a picnic or cake walk of any sort, as everything for the semester really should get finished today! I finished one seventeen page paper earlier today, now I need to make my poetry chapbook, and write my Aristotle paper (SO EXCITED. No, really. Okay, just no.). That's really not so much to do, so hopefully all will go smoothly...or at least smoothishly? I apologize for this paragraph having sort of turned into a to do list! I guess I'm just really focussed on work or something. Yeah, that must be it..


This outfit felt very retro to me once I put it together. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I think it has to do with the shape and length of the skirt, which feels kind of sixties to me. So, I couldn't help myself and put on a pair of my mom's old glasses to complete the feel. It's actually kind of appropriate that I dressed in a retro way to end the week, because this week has been very Beatles-oriented. Over the weekend, I discovered, or re-discovered, my mom's old Beatles records and played them over and over. I love the grainy, real, sound that comes from a record. It's just wonderful in a way I can't describe. Then, of course, Wednesday marked the anniversary of John Lennon's assassination, so I tried to soak up as much music as I could that day as well. The Beatles are really magic, and when I really listen to them I come away in awe of how important their music is. What are some of your favorite Beatles songs?
